Hello.... We are Art and BJ Heyman.

We live in sunny Royal Palm Beach, Florida. Royal Palm Beach is about 70 miles north of Miami.

• In 1980 the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board appointed Art and BJ as missionaries.

• Our first term was in Monrovia, Liberia (West Africa) from 1981 - 1983.

• In 1984 we learned Spanish in San Jose, Costa Rica (Central America)

• Our next two terms were in Montevideo, Uruguay (South America) from 1985 - 1991

• During their first term in Liberia, Art and BJ served as dorm parents to missionary kids, and Art was a professor in the Liberian Baptist Theological Seminary.

• In Uruguay, Art taught at the Uruguayan Baptist Theological Seminary and also served a couple of years as mission treasurer.

• Art has been retired since January 2018. His last job was with the Department of Adult and Community Education at the Palm Beach County School District. He was an IT Specialist in the areas of testing and assessments and provided computer support for more than 25 school sites and three jail sites.

• In the past, Art was an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU). He also taught computer courses and ESOL with BJ. Earlier he served seven years as a Minister of Education at two Florida churches and was an interim pastor for a year at another church. Art enjoys playing guitar, reading and watching science fiction, and of course, learning the newest techniques on his computer. Art and BJ have served together as marriage mentors for the past ten years.

• BJ is a graduate of FSU’s Nursing School and PBAU in West Palm Beach with a master’s degree in counseling psychology. She is the former director of a Life Care and a First Care Crisis Pregnancy center in the West Palm Beach area. Before that she taught English (ESOL) in a Family Literacy program. Now retired, BJ enjoys being a grandmother to our seven grandsons and one granddaughter.

• We have two sons, Pat and Beau.

  • Pat is a graduate of PBAU and the University of Florida where he received a doctorate in nursing. He is a former professor and assistant dean of nursing at PBAU. Pat lives in the Orlando, Florida area where he provides leadership to a college nursing program with campuses in Orlando, Tampa, and Miami.
    

  • Beau is married to Jenny and lives in Wellington, Florida. Beau graduated from PBAU in communications and has a master’s degree in Christian leadership. Beau is the Executive Director of First Care Women’s Clinic. Jenny graduated from PBAU in psychology and has a master s degree in childhood education from Florida Atlantic University. Jenny is a home school teacher.
